The secret to winning the AI race
When it comes to AI based innovation, companies the world over are vying for competitive advantage. However, when it comes to gaining the upper hand, many have written off European companies solely on the basis of stricter privacy laws. But is this really the case? How Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Can Help Improve Healthcare Decision Making
Lawrenceville, NJ, USA--May 19, 2020--ISPOR--The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) held its second Virtual ISPOR 2020 plenary session this afternoon, "HEOR and Clinical Decision Making--Advancing Meaningful Progress." Virtual ISPOR 2020 is the Society's first completely virtual conference that was redesigned as an online event when the COVID-19 pandemic required a necessary cancelation of the in-person conference. The rise of big data and artificial intelligence bring wide-ranging opportunities for HEOR to become a relevant part of clinical decision making. In this plenary, panelists explored data-driven, collaborative approaches to clinical decision making and ways that HEOR can help strengthen health service delivery and enhance the patient experience. Nigam Shah, MBBS, PhD was the first to provide introductory remarks. He outlined a patient journey that has the potential to generate a wide variety of disparate data sources--including claims, ICD codes, medications, procedures, lab tests, clinical notes, and more--that can be used to inform artificial intelligence (AI).

5 reasons why chatbots represent a huge opportunity for retailers
E-commerce will have grown 5% by 2021, meaning it will soon make up 17.5% of total global retail sales. Perhaps the single most powerful driving force behind the industry's growth so far has been technology. From rapid improvement in smartphones to new software that creates immersive and frictionless customer experiences, advancements in tech are paving the way for the future of e-commerce. Technology is often viewed as impersonal, something that provides a uniform experience to every user, no matter who they are. But in fact, many advances in e-commerce technology are focused on exactly the opposite: providing personalized, one-on-one interactions between brands and individual shoppers, but at scale.
Thoughts on sustainability from the big consulting firms at ValueX
The morning session at SAP Ariba/SAP Fieldglass ValueX left us with some thoughts from the big consulting firms about the way procurement, and indeed business, should and will go in the coming years if we are to survive the pace of technological change the world is experiencing, and adapt our processes to respect our planet. The keynote called for a reboot of capitalism and (the environment), championed by John Penrose MP. Deloitte was quick to follow with a look at Industry 4 (automation, data exchange, cyber-physical systems (CPS), the internet of things (IoT), industrial internet of things (IIOT), cloud computing, cognitive computing and artificial intelligence and so on) in the context of procurement. They reminded us that the fourth industrial revolution is not, however, just about a collection of technologies, rather how you package and use them altogether to support your long-term business strategy. A global Deloitte survey revealed that 94% (of respondents) saw implementing digital tech and processes (aka digital transformation) as a means just to'keep up' with the rest of the marketplace.

Take-Offs – Summer 2019 - Constructech
For decades, the necessary technology tools have been available to generate more and more data, as it relates to various processes in construction such as project management, scheduling, job costing, and more. The challenge is, with the influx of data, in the last few years, it has become more difficult to use that information well. "It hasn't been centrally stored and there hasn't been computing capability, even if the information was centrally stored," explains Dan Patterson, chief design officer, InEight, www.ineight.com, "That information is very loosely structured; it is not a uniform format. It is very difficult for computers to then mine that historical information."

How Artificial Intelligence (AI) can make online betting safer
Given the regulatory climate around anti-money laundering (AML) compliance and safe betting procedures, it came as no surprise when the Gambling Commission slapped 888 with a £7.8m fine in August 2017, and even less so more recently when Paddy Power Betfair was also rapped to the tune of £2.2m. Each of the fines were handed down as a result of the operators' failing to install safety measures in support of responsible gaming and preventing the use of illicit funds on their platforms. Backed by a worldwide tightening up of illicit money trafficking by national financial intelligence units as well as global organizations such as the Financial Action Task Group (FATF) and the Egmont group, gaming lords are finally picking up on the cue to make online gaming a safer and more responsible experience. Money laundering harbors many perils to our well being as it is typically associated with organised crime, drugs, terror and illicit trading of wildlife. Federal agencies estimate that $300bn is laundered annually in the US alone.

Why you can't afford to ignore chatbots
Artificial intelligence is on the rise and many companies are utilizing marketing automation in order to communicate in real-time with their customers and deliver highly personalized experiences. Part of this technology breakthrough are the chatbots, that are slowly entering the mainstream of marketing, providing great value to brands worldwide. With billions of people using instant messaging platforms, imagine what a huge opportunity this is for both B2C and B2B brands. Although chatterbots or chatbots have received a lot of attention recently, its technology has been around for decades and it is evolving rapidly. A chatbot is a computer program presented as a chat interface, that can reply to messages from computer users.
